Dell Migrate enables you to migrate your files and settings from any PC running the Windows operating system to a Dell PC. After you migrate your data, you can erase and reset your old PC before you sell, gift, or trade in the PC.
For steps to migrate your data, see the video titled Getting started with Dell Migrate. For this video, let’s assume that you have not paired your PCs or migrated your data.
To begin, ensure the following conditions are met before you pair both your PCs. The operating system that is installed on the old PC is Windows 8.1 or later. The operating system that is installed on your new PC is Windows 10 or later.
You are logged in to the old and new PCs as an administrator. And the old and new PCs are connected to the same local network. Now, on your old PC, go to Dell.com/DataAssistant. Scroll down and download the executable file and click it.
The Dell Data Assistant is extracted and installed on your PC. On your new PC, open SupportAssist, click the chevron icon, click Go now, and then click Let’s get started. Now, on your old PC, open Dell Data assistant and click Let’s get started.
If you are connected to a public network, you are prompted to confirm if you recognize and trust the network. If you do, click Trust Network to continue. Dell Migrate tries to detect your old PC that is connected to the same network.
When the old PC is detected, enter the verification code that is displayed on your old PC. After the code is verified, the two PCs are successfully paired. Since you want to move to erase your old PC, click Erase This PC.
If you have not migrated your data yet, you are prompted to confirm if you want to proceed without migration. Click Proceed to Erase if you do not want to migrate your data.
Otherwise, migrate your data before proceeding to erase by clicking Perform Migration Dell Migrate verifies if the PC is connected to an electrical outlet.
Click Reboot To Begin Dell Reset. Note, when your PC reboots, the Dell Migrate experience is continued using the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery user interface. Select the required reset option and complete the process.
