This video provides instructions on how to update the system setup or BIOS of a Dell computer. The steps include checking the current version, downloading the latest version from Dell Support, and installing the update. It is important to not power off the system during the update and to confirm the update afterwards.
Dell recommends keeping your system setup, or BIOS, up to date. We'll go through a few simple steps to do this. Before you start, check the current version of the system setup.
You can do this either from the system setup Or the MSINFO32 utility. To check in the system setup, power on your computer and tap the F2 key on the Dell splash screen.
You'll find the version number next to "BIOS Revision". To check the setup version from Windows, go to the Start screen and type, "MSINFO32". Click "MSINFO32" and the system information window will open.
You can find your system setup version next to "BIOS Version/date". To download the latest version of System Setup, visit dell.com/support. Under "Enter your Service Tag", type your system's service tag and click "Submit".
If you don't have your system service tag handy, you can click "Detect my Product". Review Dell's support terms and conditions page, then click "Yes, I agree." Then click "Install" Dell System Detect will now install and locate your service tag.
When it completes you'll be routed to your computer's product support page. Click the "Get Drivers" tab on the left. Click "View all drivers" to see the list of drivers and applications available for your system.
Select the category dropdown and choose "BIOS". Click "Download file" and save the file on your desktop. Ensure you do not power off your system during the update, as this may make the system non-functional.
If you're running the update on a portable, ensure the AC adapter is connected to the wall outlet. Save and close all applications.
Double-click the file you downloaded on the desktop. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the system setup update. Your system will automatically restart, start the update, then boot back to Windows when complete. To confirm the update, visit the system setup or the MSINFO32 utility.
