This video covers how to install a Unity x00/F Series, x50/F Series, and 380/F disk processor enclosure (DPE).
This video shows how to quickly install the Unity systems shown on screen and in the description accompanying the video. Before you begin: ensure you always were proper electrostatic discharge or ESD, protection when servicing the system. First, download the Connection utility, from the Unity Info Hub.
The link can be found in the description for this video. You’ll use the Connection utility later in this procedure to assign static IP addresses to your system. You should also download the Connection utility and license files, in advance in case you’re installing in a location with restricted internet access.
Now you’re ready to install the hardware. To begin this process, first install the rails in the rack. With the help of another person or a mechanical lift, insert the enclosure onto the rails, from the front of the rack.
Make sure the enclosure is flush with the front of the rack, and doesn’t slide out. Secure the enclosure to the front channels of the cabinet with four screws, installing two per side. Locate the product serial number tag, and record the serial number. On the 12-drive DPE, this tag is on the underside of the top edge, near the right side of the system.
On the 25-drive DPE, this tag is located between drive slots 16 and 17. Lastly, you need to cable the hardware. First, connect two Ethernet cables from your local network to the RJ45 management ports ports on the rear of the system. Make sure you don’t plug the cables into the service ports, which are marked with yellow, and a wrench icon. Next, cable the system to a power source.
Connect one end of the DPE power cable to the power distribution unit. Then, insert the other end of the power cable cable to each power supply, and secure the cable with the cable clip. Once you insert the power cables, the system powers on. You can verify that the system is healthy using the LEDs.
The storage processor power light should be green, and the fault light should be either blue, or alternating blue and amber in three second intervals. It can take up to 60 minutes to complete the initial system boot, depending on the factory configuration. Next, assign a management address to the system.
There are two ways you can do this: by assigning a static address to the system, or by allowing the system to dynamically acquire an IP address using DHCP. Use the Connection utility if you’d like to assign a static IP address. Finally, launch the Unisphere Initial Configuration Wizard to complete the installation.
The Initial Configuration Wizard walks you through the steps to install licenses, configure network settings, create pools, manage alerts, define support options, configure network interfaces, and create NAS servers. You’ve just installed and configured your new DPE.
