Prerequisites:
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, you must remove the drives from the system before removing the backplane.
CAUTION: Note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before removal so that you can replace them in the same drive slots.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.

Remove the system cover.
Remove all the drives from the front.
If applicable, remove the drive backplane cover.
NOTE: Observe the routing of the cable as you remove it from the system.
Removing the Drive Backplane:
Press the blue release tabs to disengage the drive backplane from the hooks on the chassis.
Lift the drive backplane from the system.
Disconnect the following cables from the backplane:
a. Backplane signal cable
b. Backplane power cable
c. If applicable, PERC cable
Installing the Drive Backplane:
Connect the following cables to the backplane:
a. Backplane signal cable
b. Backplane power cable
c. If applicable, PERC cable
Align the slots on the backplane with the hooks on the chassis.
Lower the backplane until the blue release tabs click into place.
Install the drives in their original locations.
Install the drive backplane cover.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system:
Replace the system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet, and then power on the system.
