Prerequisites:
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, remove the drives from the system before removing the backplane.
CAUTION: Note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before you remove the drive so that you can reinstall them in the same location.
NOTE: The procedure to remove the backplane is similar for all backplane configurations.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.
Remove the system cover.
Remove the air shroud.
Remove the backplane cover.
Remove all the drives.
Disconnect the VGA cable from the system board.
NOTE: Observe the routing of the cable as you remove it from the system.
If installed, disconnect the optical drive signal and power cables from the drive.
Removing the Backplane:
Press the blue release tabs to disengage the drive backplane from the hooks on the system.
Lift the drive backplane out of the system.
NOTE: To avoid damaging the backplane, ensure that you move the control panel cables from the cable routing clips before removing the backplane.
Installing the Drive Backplane:
Use the hooks on the system as guides to align the slots on the backplane with the guides on the system.
Insert the backplane into the guides and lower the backplane until the blue release tabs click into place.
Reconnect the VGA cable to the system board.
If disconnected, reconnect the optical drive power and signal cables to the drive.
Reconnect all the disconnected cables to the backplane.
Install all the drives.
Install the backplane cover.
Install the air shroud.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system:
Replace the system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet, and then power on the system.
