This video covers how to replace a dual inline memory module (DIMM) in a Unity x00/F Series, x50/F Series, and 380/F disk processor enclosure (DPE).
This video shows how to replace a faulted memory module in the Unity systems shown on screen and in the description below the video. Before you begin: Ensure that you always wear proper electrostatic discharge or ESD protection when working inside the system. First, verify the location of the faulted memory module.
From the enclosures page, locate the faulted memory module, marked in orange in the enclosure view. Make a note of which SP, and memory slot the faulted part is in. Next, place the SP into service mode. The SP fault LED should be alternating amber and blue when the system is in service mode. Now you’re ready to replace the faulted memory module. Remove the SP assembly from the enclosure.
Make sure you remove the SP that you identified earlier, and do not remove an SP while the Unsafe to remove LED is lit. Before you remove the SP, first remove the power cord, then label and disconnect any other cables from the network ports. Do not remove the cables from the other SP assembly. Pull the torque limit screw handle out of the SP assembly, then turn it counterclockwise to release the SP from the enclosure. Use the handle to pull the SP out of the enclosure.
Now, place the SP on a flat surface with the top facing up. Wait until all LEDs are off to make sure that the SP is fully powered off. This can take up to three minutes. Push down on the blue release button and slide the top cover back until it stops moving. Then remove the top cover and set it aside. Finally, remove the air flow baffle to access the memory module. Press in on the tabs on both sides of the air flow baffle.
Then, lift upward to remove it from the SP. Now, locate the faulted memory module in the memory slot that you identified earlier. To remove the memory module, push down the two retaining clips, and release the memory module then lift it from the slot. Now, install the replacement memory module. Touching only the outside edges line up the module with the slot. Then push the memory module straight down into the slot.
When it is module is fully seated, you will hear a snap, and feel the connector latches click into place. With that, you’re all done replacing the memory module. Reinstall the air baffle by aligning the two retaining clips with the slots on the side of the SP. Firmly push down on the air baffle to secure it. Align the top cover with the slots on the sides of the assembly. Pull the top cover forward about a half an inch to secure it in place.
Finally, align the SP with the enclosure and slide it in the slot until it stops moving. Then turn the orange screw handle clockwise until you hear a click. Then push the screw handle in until it clicks again. Finally, reconnect all of the back end cables you removed earlier, and then, reconnect the power cable. Wait about 10 to 15 minutes after reinserting the SP into the system to let the SP fully boot back into service mode.
Then, return to Unisphere and reboot the SP into normal mode. It can take up to 20 minutes for the system to reboot. You should also make sure your new memory module is recognized by the system and operating correctly from Unisphere. To do this, on the enclosure summary page, confirm that the part’s status is OK.
