In this video, we will demonstrate how to remove and install the WLAN card.
Before removing the WLAN card, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.
For more information about safety guidelines, read the Service Manual at dell.com/support Before you begin, turn off the computer and disconnect all attached peripherals. If you have a SD card connected to the system, make sure to remove it before you proceed further.
To begin, turn the computer over and loosen the two captive screws followed by the seven screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Using the flat-end of a plastic scribe, pry the base cover starting from the recess at the hinge area and work your way around. Then, lift and remove the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Next, disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board. Turn the computer over and open the display. Press and hold the power button for five seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power.
After draining the flea power, close the display, and turn the computer over. Now let’s remove the WLAN card. Remove the single screw that secures the WLAN card bracket and WLAN card to the system board.
You can now remove the WLAN card bracket. Now, gently slide and lift the WLAN card away from the WLAN card slot on the system board. Carefully, disconnect the antenna cables from the connectors on the WLAN card.
You have successfully removed the WLAN card. Now, let’s see how to install the WLAN card. To begin, Connect the antenna cables to its connectors on the WLAN card as indicated by the black and white triangles on the WLAN card.
Align the notches on the WLAN card with the tabs on the WLAN card slot and insert the WLAN card at an angle into the WLAN card slot. Now align the bracket on the card and replace the screw to secure the bracket on the WLAN card.
At this point, reconnect the battery cable to the connector on the system board. Align and place the base cover on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly and snap the base cover into place.
Now, tighten the two captive screws and replace the seven screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. You have now successfully installed the WLAN card.
