In this video, we will demonstrate how to replace the memory module on a Precision 3280 Compact. Before you begin, read through and follow the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. To begin, loosen the thumb screw that secures the side cover to the chassis. Slide the side cover towards the front of the computer, then lift it away from the chassis. Disconnect the fan cable from the connector on the system board, then press the blue tabs on both sides of the processor fan and lift it away from the chassis To remove a memory module, pull the retention clips away until it pops up slightly.
Then, hold it by the edges and carefully remove. Repeat these steps for removing the second memory module, if installed. To install a memory module, align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the slot and slide it in at an angle. Then press down on it until the retention clips click into place.
If you don't hear a click, remove, and re-insert the memory module. Repeat these steps for any additional memory modules. Align and lower the processor fan on the computer chassis until it clicks into place, then connect the fan cable to the connector on the system board.
Finally, align the tabs on the side cover with the slots on the chassis and slide the cover towards the back. Replace the thumb screw and tighten it to secure the side cover to the chassis.
