In this video, we will demonstrate how to remove and install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive.
Before removing the M.2 2230 solid-state drive, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.
For more information about safety guidelines, see the Dell G7 7700 Service Manual dell.com/support. Before you begin, ensure that you turn off your computer and all attached peripherals.
Remove the base cover. To remove the base cover, Remove the six screws (M2x5) that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Loosen the two captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Starting from the bottom-left corner, use a plastic scribe to pry the base cover and to release the base cover from the tabs.
Lift the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board. Turn your computer over and press the power button for 15 seconds to drain the flea power.
Now let’s remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive. Remove the screw that secures the solid-state drive thermal bracket to the system board.
Lift the solid-state drive thermal bracket off the solid-state drive and let the solid-state drive thermal bracket rest on the system board. Remove the screw that secures the solid-state drive to the system board.
Slide and lift the solid-state drive off the SSD slot. You have successfully removed the M.2 2230 solid-state drive. Now, let’s see how to install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive.
Please note, to replace an M.2 2230 solid-state drive with an M.2 2280 solid-state drive, you must first re-position the solid-state mounting bracket.
See the video covering Re-positioning the solid-state drive mounting bracket for more details. Align the notch on the solid-state drive with the tab on the SSD slot.
Slide the solid-state drive into the SSD slot. Align the screw hole on the solid-state drive with the screw hole on the palmrest-keyboard assembly.
Replace the screw that secures the solid-state drive to the system board. Place the solid-state drive thermal bracket over the solid-state drive.
Align the screw hole on the solid-state drive thermal bracket with the screw hole on the palmrest-keyboard assembly. Replace the screw that secures the solid-state drive thermal bracket to the system board.
Once the M.2 2230 solid-state drive is installed, install the base cover back to the computer. Connect the battery cable to the system board.
Align the screw holes on the base cover with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly, and then snap the base cover into place.
Tighten the two captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Replace the six screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
