Prerequisites
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, you must remove the hard drives from the system before removing the backplane.
CAUTION: You must note the number of each hard drive and temporarily label them before removal so that you can replace them in the same locations.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system:
Turn off the system, including all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
Lay the system on its side.
Remove the system cover.
Remove all the drives.
If installed, remove the middle cooling fan assembly.
Removing a hard drive backplane:
Disconnect the data, signal, and power cables from the backplane.
Pull the release pin and holding the pin, lift the backplane out of the system.
Installing a hard drive backplane:
Use the hooks at the base of the system as guides to align the hard drive backplane.
Lower the hard-drive backplane into the system till the release pin locks in place, securing the hard drive backplane to the system.
Connect the data, signal, and power cables to the backplane.
If removed, install the middle cooling fan assembly.
Install the drives into their original slots.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
Place the system upright on a flat, stable surface.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet.
Turn on the attached peripherals and then turn on the system
