This video covers the general procedure for replacing a battery in most Dell Laptops. Your system my look different, have a different number of screws, different battery style and battery, screws, and cables my be located differently.
This video shows how to replace the battery on most Dell laptops. Before you begin, ensure that you create a recovery drive and back up all data. Then, power off the system and disconnect all the attached peripherals and the power adapter.
Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the system. Also, read through the safety guidelines to protect your system from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.
For more information about safety guidelines, see the Service Manual for your system at Dell.com/Support. To get started, you’ll need the following tools. A Phillips-head screwdriver, or, in some cases, a torque driver and a plastic scribe.
The screwdriver type may vary for your system. You may also need a SIM-card removal pin if applicable for your system. Now, remove the SD card or SIM card if one’s installed in your system.
To remove an SD card, push the card to eject it from its slot and then remove it from the system. To remove the SIM card, push the SIM-card removal pin into the release hole on the SIM-card tray to disengage the lock. Now, slide the SIM-card tray out of the slot to remove the SIM card. Next, turn the system over to remove the base cover.
Your system may have a different combination of removable and captive screws. Remove the screws or loosen the captive screws. Using the flat end of a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the gap created between the base cover and the palmrest and keyboard assembly and continue to work on the sides to open the base cover.
The starting point to pry the base cover varies with each system. Refer to your system service manual for more information. With the base cover free, lift it away from the palmrest and keyboard assembly. Now, let’s disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
The placement of the battery connector may vary for your system. Once the battery is disconnected, turn the system back over and press the Power button to drain any remaining flea power. Remove the screws that secure the battery to the palmrest and keyboard assembly.
Then, lift the battery off the palmrest and keyboard assembly. You have successfully removed the battery. Now, let’s install the battery. Using the alignment posts, place the battery on the palmrest and keyboard assembly.
Then replace the screws to secure the battery to the palmrest and keyboard assembly. Connect the battery cable to its connector on the system board.
Now, align the screw holes on the base cover with the screw holes on the palmrest and keyboard assembly and snap it into place. Replace any screws removed from the base cover and tighten the captive screws if applicable.
Turn the system over. If applicable, reinstall the SD or SIM cards that you removed earlier and connect any other peripherals. Connect the power adapter and power on the system.
