Dell Data Protection: Enterprise Server - Virtual Edition. Installing DDP Enterprise Server VE. Introduction. The DDP Enterprise Server - VE is the security administration piece of Dell's solution. The VE Remote Management Console allows administrators to monitor the state of endpoints, policy enforcement, and protection across the enterprise. Proxy Mode provides a front-end DMZ Mode option for use with DDP Enterprise Server - VE.
Refer to the product documentation for complete details and best practices. Pre-requisites. Use these instructions to install DDP Enterprise Server - Virtual Edition on a supported virtual machine. To install and activate Dell Data Protection products, you must be a local or domain Admin user.
Your virtualization engine must already be available. The recommended disk space for DDP Enterprise Server - VE is 80 GB. A 64-bit CPU is required, with a minimum of 4 gigabytes of RAM. The VE product documentation provides a list of supported Virtualization environments.
Process Overview. Access the system with the virtualization engine. Install the DDP Enterprise Server - VE from the OVA file. Make the initial configuration changes. Install the VE Remote Management Console. Optionally, install and configure Proxy Mode for external-facing devices.
Installation Walkthrough. The DDP Enterprise Server - Virtual Edition is distributed as an Open Virtualization Appliance file. Locate Enterprise Server - VE OVA file in the Dell Installation Media and copy it to your desktop. Double-click the OVA file to import it into your virtual machine. This may take several minutes.
Once the import is complete, the DDP Enterprise Edition - VE appliance is available but powered off. Next, we will power it on and go through initial configuration. The configuration steps are required, but particular responses depend on your environment. Power on your new VE appliance.
To navigate the menu options, use the arrow keys and press "Enter" to select. Select the language. Press the arrow to display the end-user license agreement. Scroll to the bottom and then accept the EULA. The default update server will be loaded. Select "OK" to check for any updates. Set the password.
Configure the host name. Configure network settings. DHCP is the default. Set the time zone. The initial configuration is complete. Additional configuration steps may be required before activating users. From the VE administration console, you can select "Basic Configuration". This includes setting many of the parameters defined during installation. You can also start and stop the server here.
Advanced configuration includes items like: Backup and Restore. Email Notifications. And setting up DMZ mode.
