In this video, we show how to replace the system board on a PowerEdge R660xs. Before removing the system board, read through and follow the safety guidelines subtitle4 to protect your system from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. For more information about safety guidelines, see the R660xs Service Manual at Dell.com/Support. In order to remove the system board, you must first remove the cover, air shroud, riser 2, BOSS riser, riser 1, memory modules and heatsink and CPUs. To remove the cover: Use a screwdriver to rotate the lock counterclockwise to the unlocked position. Next, lift the release latch until the system cover slides back.
Then lift the cover from the system. To remove riser 2: Disconnect the data cables from the system board. Holding the blue touch points, squeeze the retaining clip and lift the riser up. Then disconnect the power cable from the system board and remove the riser. To remove the OCP card: Open the blue latch, then push it towards the rear of the system and slide it out. To remove the BOSS riser: Holding the blue touch points, lift it from the connector on the system board. To remove riser 1: Holding the blue touch points, lift it from the system board. To remove a memory module: Press the ejectors at both ends of the memory module socket, then lift it away from the system. Repeat this process for the remaining modules. To remove a heatsink: Loosen the first captive nut three turns, then the opposite one.
Loosen the remaining nuts and return to the first and finish loosening it. Next, set the anti-tilt wires to the unlocked position. Then lift the processor and heatsink module from the system. Repeat this process for the remaining heatsink and CPU. To remove the system board: Disconnect the power and data cables. Lift the blue plunger and slide it towards the front of the system. Then lift and remove the board from the system. To install the system board: Align and place it into the system. Slide it towards the back of the system until it clicks into place.
Then reconnect the power and data cables to the system board. To install the processor and heatsink module: Align the pin 1 indicator to the socket on the system board and then lower into place. Next, set the anti-tilt wires to the locked position. Then tighten the first nut three times, then the opposite one. Tighten the remaining nuts and return to the first nut to tighten completely. Repeat this process for the remaining heatsink and CPU. To install a memory module: Align the edge connector with the alignment key on the memory module socket and insert it into the socket. Repeat this process for the remaining modules.
To install riser 1: Align and lower it into the connector on the system board. To install the BOSS riser: Holding the blue touch points, align and lower it into place until firmly seated.
