Hi there. In this video, we'll have a look at removing a disk and dis group via the Vsphere client before removing any disks. It's best practice to ensure all virtual machines including the service V MS have an up to date backup of the cluster. Before doing this kind of maintenance. The cluster should be in good health other than the alerts related to the failed drives being replaced before beginning, this procedure must not be done if the VA does not have sufficient space remaining for full functionality without one or more disc groups that need correction.
More information on this can be found in the KB article for this topic to begin log into Vsphere with your administrator details before removing any disks, right. Click on the host and select maintenance mode, then enter maintenance mode to view the disks, select configure at the top and then select disk management from the scroll down menu, select the disc group with the affected disc and click on view discs, select and highlight the faulty disk from here. You can turn on the disc locator led by clicking the three dots here and selecting turn on led.
This will illuminate an led on the physical drive. So you know which one has to be removed to remove the disc. Click on, remove dis a window with options for full data migration, ensure accessibility and no data migration will be displayed. The host should already be in maintenance mode from the previous step. So all VM object data on the entire host should have a copy or exist somewhere else in the cluster. Select no data migration for this section. Then click on remove to remove an entire disc group. The process is similar, click on the three dots on the group header and click on remove. You will be met with a similar window prompt regarding data migration, select no migration and then remove and that's it.
Thanks for watching.
