If you are wondering why your Dell portable battery is not charging when plugged into power, this video is made just for you. Portable batteries are designed to have a lifespan of at least a couple of years, but it will also depend on the usage: that is, the number of charge and discharge cycles.
You can check the battery health by using the battery health meter. Some Dell portables feature a charge indicator on the battery. In the case that the battery health meter indicates adverse health of the battery, you can order a new one online or by calling Dell sales. But if the battery is healthy, you can check the power rating of the adaptor connected.
If the adaptor you have has a lower power rating than what is required, it will show an error message when you boot. Please switch to the adaptor shipped with your portable. You can try reseating the battery to see if that fixes the issue. Make sure your power source is a good one.
The power adaptor usually has an LED indicator on the brick or the connector to show that it is getting power. Try using a different wall outlet and bypass the surge protector if you are using one. This will help you to isolate the source of the issue. You can also call tech support, but trying these steps before you call might save precious time.
