In this video, we will demonstrate how to remove and install the hard drive. Remove the base cover and disconnect the battery cable. To remove the base cover, loosen the six captive screws that secure the base cover to the computer base to open a gap between the two parts. Starting from the middle of the bottom side, lift open the base cover with your fingertips. Release the tabs on the base cover from the slots on the computer base. Then, slide the base cover off the computer base.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board. Turn the computer over and open the display. Press and hold the power button for five seconds to ground the system board. Now, let’s remove the hard drive. Using the pull tab, disconnect the hard-drive cable from the system board. Remove the hard-drive cable from the routing guides on the computer base. Remove the four screws that secure the hard-drive assembly to the palm-rest assembly.
Lift the hard-drive assembly along with its cable off the palm-rest assembly. Disconnect the interposer from the hard-drive assembly. Remove the four screws that secure the hard-drive bracket to the hard drive. Lift the hard-drive bracket off the hard drive. You have successfully removed the hard drive. Now, let’s see how to install the hard drive. Place the hard drive on the hard-drive bracket.
Align the screw holes on the hard-drive bracket with the screw holes on the hard drive. Replace the four screws that secure the hard-drive bracket to the hard drive. Connect the interposer to the hard-drive assembly. Align the screw holes on the hard-drive assembly with the screw holes on the palm-rest assembly. Replace the four screws that secure the hard-drive assembly to the palm-rest assembly. Route the hard-drive cable through the routing guides on the computer base.
Connect the hard-drive cable to the system board. Once the hard drive is installed, connect the battery cable to the system board. Slide the tabs on the base cover into the slots on the computer base and snap the base cover into place. Tighten the six captive screws that secure the base cover to the computer base.
