Windows 10 offers the ability to reset operating system files quickly in a few simple clicks. Before any changes to your operating system, Dell recommends backing up your personal files and information.
To get started, find ‘Recovery Options’ by using the Cortana Search Box on the taskbar In the search box type ‘Recovery Options’ and then, click on the Recovery Options Icon from the search results.
Click on the ‘Get started’ button to launch the wizard You will be prompted to choose between ‘Keep my files’ and ‘Remove everything’ ‘Keep my files’ resets computer defaults, removes apps and programs you installed, and replaces the operating system files.
Your personal files, like documents and pictures, will remain. Click “Keep my files”, Review the specific changes, then click ‘Reset’. If you prefer removing all of the files on the computer, return to recovery options and select “Remove everything”. 'Just remove my files' deletes all personal and OS files then resets the operating system similar to when you first used it.
'Remove files and clean the drive' performs the same task, but also writes new information over old files, making it much harder to recover information. Select your desired option.
Review the guidance. When ready, click the ‘Reset’ button. Your system immediately starts the reset. Your computer may reboot several times while it completes.
You have successfully reset your PC. You will be prompted to set up the computer on the first use. To learn more about Windows 10 on your Dell computer visit dell.com/support/windows10 or contact us on facebook.com/dell or @dellcares on twitter.
