In this video, we show how to replace the speakers, in a Vostro 16 5640. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals. To enter Service Mode, press and hold the B key, and then press the power button. The computer will boot up and the Owner Tag information is displayed on the screen. Press any key to proceed, the computer will emit three short beeps and shut down. To begin, loosen the two captive screws on the base cover. Then, remove the remaining six screws.
Using a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover, starting from the recesses near the hinges. Continue prying along the other sides to release the cover and remove it. Disconnect the battery cable from its connector on the system board. Now, carefully pry the speaker cable connector head and pull it away from the connector. Remove the cables from the routing guides. Then, lift the right and left speakers, along with their cable.
To install the speakers, Using the alignment posts, place the left and right speakers into their slots on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Route the speaker cables into their routing guides. Then, connect the cables by placing the connector head in its slot and pressing it downwards. Connect the battery cable to its connector on the system board. Align the base cover with the palm-rest and keyboard assembly and snap it into place.
Replace the six screws and then tighten the two captive screws to secure the base cover. Finally, once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter. And press the power button to turn on the computer and exit Service Mode. Please note, the computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected.
