Welcome to the Unity SFP Replacement demonstration. Please refer to the Customer Replacement Procedure, EMC Unity Series, Replacing an SFP, available on support.emc.com for the complete details. To begin we’re going to log in to Unisphere using the Admin account.
As we can see on the Unity Dashboard, in the System Health window, there is a hardware issue reported. Click on the icon to view more details. This brings us to the System View page. Here we can see that Fibre Channel Port 5 in Storage Processor A, or SP A, needs attention.
Let’s click on it to see the details. Now we can see where the SFP in SP A Port 5 is located. Now let’s take a look at the Alerts page. This confirms that the problem is SFP in Fibre Channel Port Five in SP A. Let’s start the replacement procedure. If a cable is connected to the SFP, make sure it is labeled and then disconnect the cable. Gently pull down the spring release latch. Gently pull out the SFP module.
Push the spring release latch up on the replacement SFP module, and slide it into the port until it is securely connected. Reconnect any cables that were removed. Now that the SFP has been replaced, let’s log back in to Unisphere to check the system status.
Navigate to the System View and then click on the Enclosures tab. Here we can see that SP A Fibre Channel Port 5 is now operating normally. Now let’s check the Alerts page. Here we can see the alerts associated with an SFP replacement.
We can see that the storage system is now operating in Normal Mode. To complete the SFP replacement task, we’re going to acknowledge all the alerts associated with this action. This completes the Unity SFP Replacement demonstration.
