Let’s look at the process of adding a converge network adapter SFP to the Unity system. We’ll start by logging on as we always do and by taking a look at the system to see what kind of shape it’s in, originally before we do this so we’ll go to the system view and look at the enclosures and you can see I have a CNA port four on SP A here and I have a CNA port on SP B here and they are both fibre channel ports where as you see here both the ports in five are uncommitted.
So, we need to add the SFP and it’s going to be simply located in the SFP. Put it in the respective slot. So here’s an example we’ve put the SFP it has to be a fibre channel SFP, as you know because each SP has to have a symmetry across both CNA Ports. So I’m putting the fibre channel SFP in each one of the CNAs port fives. I’m going to refresh Unity. I should say Unisphere and take a look and you can see that if I click on that I see I have installed the SFP however it is still uncommitted so we need to commit it in other words, we need to make this configuration known to the system so the next time it boots it has that. So when you commit and run the commit process that’s what it does it writes into the configuration logs of the respective SPs and next time it boots it will recognize that configuration and it will be persisted in that configuration.
So we can take a look at any alerts that were generated by this process and of course we can click on any alert to get details as we see here. Notice here that it’s telling me to reload Unisphere I’m going to have to do that from time to time because the SP Boot. You see anything that’s applicable again here.
This process takes a while to happen to reboot several times during the whole process here are some of the logs that are associated with the SFP. It’s always a good idea to check these as well to see what types of log informational text was put in the log so that’s all we’re doing here to find out the time frame and find out you see everything’s blue so there’s nothing really going on bad in the system.
So about 25 minutes later we’ll go back and we’ll take a look at some of the alerts again. Here we see the support has been committed. Refresh the system. Again, as I said earlier it takes a while and it will. You can watch the SPs boot up if you want. And here we see that from the System View that everything should look good and it should the slot should be committed so the port itself I click on it it says it’s the fibre channel port.
Same in SP fibre channel port five so everything looks good there go back to my alerts and at this point I just want to clear everything out of the system and acknowledge all the alerts that were applicable to this process so that’s what I’m gonna do here I acknowledge those clean the system up a bit and that’s going to be the end of the demonstration.
