In this video, we show you how to replace or upgrade the power supply unit or PSU in your Alienware Area-51 AAT2250. Before you begin, ensure that your computer is turned off and all connected devices are unplugged. Remember to use ESD protection when working inside the computer to ensure your personal safety.
For more information on ESD protection refer to your computers manual. Your computer was shipped with either an 850W or 1500W PSU. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver to complete this procedure. To begin, remove the safety screw and rotate the knob clockwise to the unlocked position.
Then, press the release button on the right side of the chassis and lift the cover away from the chassis. Now, remove the two screws that secure the PSU holder to the chassis. And remove the PSU holder. Next, remove the four screws on the rear chassis that secures the PSU to the chassis.
Open the cable retention clip. Slide and remove the PSU along with the cables slightly from the chassis. Disconnect the power cables connected to the PSU and remove it completely. To install a PSU, slide it in partially into the PSU chamber. and connect the power cables to the respective connectors on it. Next, push the PSU completely into its chamber and slide it toward the rear side of the chassis. Route the cables and close the cable retention clip.
Then replace the four screws on the rear of the chassis that sure the PSU to the chassis. Align the PSU holder tabs to the slots on the chassis and install it. Then replace the two screws that secures the holder to the chassis. Align the tabs on the cover with the slots on the chassis. Then, tilt the cover towards the computer until it clicks into place. Finally, turn the knob counterclockwise to the locked position. Then, secure the knob by replacing the screw. If you need more information or assistance go to Alienware.com.
