Prerequisites
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section.

You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that are shipped with your product.
NOTE The expansion card riser 1 and the x16 link on the riser 2 slot can be used only when both the processors are installed.
Removing expansion card risers:
Holding the touch points, lift the expansion card riser from the riser connector on the systemboard.
If applicable, remove or install an expansion card on the riser.
Install the expansion card riser.
Removing an expansion card:
Disconnect any cables connected to the expansion card or expansion card riser.
To remove the expansion card, lift the expansion card latch.
Hold the expansion card by its edges and remove it from the expansion card connector on the riser.
If you are removing the card permanently, install a metal filler bracket over the empty expansion slot opening and close the expansion card latch.
Installing an expansion card:
Unpack the expansion card and prepare it for installation.
For instructions, see the documentation that accompanied the card.
Locate the expansion card connector on the system board or riser.
Open the expansion card latch and remove the filler bracket.
Holding the card by its edges, position the card so that the card edge connector aligns with the expansion card connector.
Insert the card edge connector firmly into the expansion card connector until the card is fully seated.
Slide the expansion card latch into position.
Installing expansion card risers:
If removed, install the expansion cards into the expansion card riser.
Align the expansion card riser with the connector and the riser guide pin on the system board.
Lower the expansion card riser into place until the expansion card riser connector is fully seated in the connector.
After working inside your system
Install the system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
If removed, install the front bezel.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet.
Turn on the system, including any attached peripherals.
