If you’re having issues with your PC not booting or Windows is freezing up or giving you general errors, or perhaps you’ve noticed that your hard drive is excessively noisy, chances are that you have a hard drive related issue that needs attention. The first thing to do is to run an ePSA Diagnostic. Restart your Dell PC.
When the Dell logo appears, press the “F12” key to enter the one time boot menu. Navigate to “Diagnostics” and press “Enter”. Then just follow the onscreen instructions to complete the diagnostics. If you get any error codes, make a note of them and contact the Dell Tech support agent through social media for assistance.
If no errors are found, the next thing to do is to verify if the hard drive is detected. To do this, turn on your computer. At the Dell logo screen, tap the “F2” key repeatedly to enter BIOS. Under “Settings”, expand “General” and click on “System Information”. Scroll down to “Device Information” and look for a name assigned as the primary hard drive.
If it’s blank, then you know your hard drive is not being recognized. The next step is resetting the BIOS to its default settings. With the general settings expanded, look for and click on “Restore Settings”. And click “OK”. Then click “OK” again to confirm loading the defaults. Click on “Exit”, then on “Yes” to save the changes, and the system should restart automatically. Afterwards, check to see if the issue is resolved.
If the issues are still not resolved, update all system drivers using Dell SupportAssist. Using Windows Search, look for and open the SupportAssist app, and navigate to “Get Drivers & Downloads”, and click on “Run Now”. SupportAssist will automatically show all the available updates. Simply click on “Install” and follow the onscreen instructions. If after all this, your PC is still experiencing issues, contact the Dell Tech Support Agent for further assistance through social media on Facebook or Twitter.
