Hello and welcome to this Dell Power Protect Data Manager appliance video. It will show you how to expand the usable capacity up to 256 terabytes with the supported expansion shelves. The Power Protect DM5500 is an integrated data protection appliance that offers powerful and secure protection of modern workloads, all designed with the end user in mind, featuring ease of use and a single user interface. The DM5500 also has a single license model based on back-end usable capacity, ranging from 12 terabytes to 96 terabytes in 12-terabyte increments, and can be expanded to 256 terabytes with expansion disk shelves. The DM5500 supports 1 to 3 expansion shelves connected to the system with a SAS HBA.
After logging into the DM5500 UI from the dashboard, we can see the current usable storage capacity. By navigating to the storage section of the UI, we can select ""Expand Capacity"" and see an overview of the current licensed capacity and the amount of available expandable capacity. On the hardware page, the disks or expansion shelves are automatically detected. The disk status is shown, and the new capacity disks are in the available state. On the license page, we can upload the back-end usable capacity-based license and expand the capacity and storage file system.
When the summary screen is validated, this example shows that the capacity has expanded from 12 terabytes to 48 terabytes. This is also shown on the storage summary page. In this example, the DM5500 has all three expansion shelves, and the expansion from 48 terabytes to 192 terabytes will be performed. The hardware screen now shows the expansion disks within the system. The 192-terabyte license will be uploaded, and then the expansion will be completed. The expanded capacity value appears on the storage summary page and on the dashboard. This concludes this demonstration about how easy it is to expand the DM5500 storage capacity while applying a back-end usable capacity license file.
