Hi, I'm Bill Cross with DELL EMC. And I'm going to show you how easy it is to replace your failed SFP optic. You can see here on this switch that we have two different types of optics that are typically used in our Connectrix products. I will show you how easy it is to replace one of these optics and get your system back up and fully operational in no time.
During the entire process the switch can remain operational. And only the optic that is being replaced will be down. First, let's remove the cable by pressing the tab on the top of the cable and pulling it out of the optic. The optic is removed by lowering the pull tab with your finger and gently but firmly pulling the optic out of the switch.
Now, let's replace the optic with the new one. Remove the optic from the bag. Insert the optic into the switch until you hear it snap into place. Next, remove the dust cover. But before you insert the cable into the switch, we insist that you clean the cable. A dirty cable will compromise a new optic.
You can learn how to properly do this by watching our video, Connectrix Fiber Optic Cleaning Made Easy. Now you have successfully learned how to replace the SFP optic in your Connectrix switch saving you time. If after replacing your optic you are still experiencing issues, contact DELL EMC support for additional assistance.
I hope you found this useful and thanks for watching.
