This video shows how to replace the fan on Inspiron 14 5425. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and back up all data before removing the fan.
Power off the computer, and disconnect all the attached peripherals. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
To begin, loosen the two captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Then, remove the five screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the top left at the hinge, and then continue to work on the sides to open the base cover.
Slide and lift the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board. Turn the computer over and open the display.
Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power. Turn over the computer to locate the fan.
Disconnect the fan cable from the system board. Then, remove the two screws that secure the fan to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Lift the fan off the system board. You have successfully removed the fan. Now, let’s install the fan. Align the screw holes on the fan with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Replace the two screws that secure the fan to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Connect the fan cable to the system board.
Connect the battery cable to the system board. Place and snap the base cover into place on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Tighten the two captive screws. Replace the five screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. You have replaced the fan on Inspiron 14 5425.
