I'm Bill Cross with DELL EMC and I'm going to show you how easy it is to clean your fiber optic cables in your Connectrix products. Studies show that the majority of connectivity issues are due to dirty cables.
This video will teach you ways to prevent having these types of connectivity problems and how to resolve these issues on your own. During the entire process the Connectrix switch can remain operating, only the optic having its cable cleaned will be down.
We recommend not moving the optic during the cleaning process as this will just cause more contamination to the optic. Here at DELL EMC we recommend a wet dry cleaning process.
There are three items you will need to clean your fiber cables. First, you will need a clean lint-free wipe like this. Second, a can of fiber cable cleaner. And third, a dry fiber cable cleaner.
These can be found in most electronic stores as well as on the web. Moving onto the cleaning process. First, remove the cable from the switch by pressing down on the tab and pulling it out.
Take a clean, lint-free wipe. Apply come cable cleaner to it. Simply wipe the cable on the cleaner in a single direction. Don't go back and forth as this will just put the dirt back on the cable.
Next, dry the cable using the standard dry cable cleaner. Again, just go in one direction. Now the cleaning process is done and you can insert the cable back into the optic.
Verify the LED is turned green. And that's it, you've just cleaned your fiber cable. Now this isn't a guarantee that cleaning your cable will fix all your interconnect problems.
But this process will teach you how to properly clean your cables on your own to save you time and prevent further connectivity issues. If after performing this cleaning process you're still experiencing issues, contact DELL EMC support for additional assistance. I hope you found this useful.
Thanks for watching.
