Prerequisites
CAUTION: If you are using the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) with an encryption key, you may be prompted to create a recovery key during program or System Setup. Be sure to create and safely store this recovery key. If you replace this system board, you must supply the recovery key when you restart your system or program before you can access the encrypted data on your drives.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the peripherals.
Remove the system cover.
Remove the following components:
Air shroud
Expansion cards
Cooling fan
IDSDM module (if installed)
Internal USB (if installed)
Heat sink
Processor
Memory modules
Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
Disconnect all the cables from the system board.
CAUTION: Take care not to damage the system identification button while removing the system board from the system.
Removing the system board:
Using a Phillips 2 screwdriver, remove the screws that secure the system board to the system.
Using the system board holder, slide the system board toward the front of the chassis.
Incline the system board at an angle and lift the system board out of the chassis.
Installing the system board:
Unpack the new system board assembly.
CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
CAUTION: Take care not to damage the system identification button while placing the system board into the chassis.
Using the system board holder, lower the system board it into the system.
Incline the system board at an angle and align the connectors on the system board with the slots on the rear of the chassis until the connectors are firmly seated in the slots.
Using the Phillips 2 screwdriver, secure the system board to the system with screws.
Replace the following components:
Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
NOTE:The TPM Module must be replaced only while installing new system board.
Expansion cards
Cooling fan
IDSDM module (If removed)
Internal USB (If removed)
Processor
Heat sink
Memory modules
Air shroud
Replace the iDRAC MAC address label from the system with the new iDRAC MAC address label that came with the replacement system board.
Reconnect all cables to the system board.
NOTE: Ensure that the cables inside the system are routed along the chassis wall and secured using the cable securing bracket.
Ensure that you perform the following steps:
Use the Easy Restore feature to restore the Service Tag. See the Restoring the system by using the Easy Restore feature section.
If the service tag is not backed up in the backup flash device, enter the system service tag manually. See the Manually update the Service Tag by using System Setup section.
Update the BIOS and iDRAC versions.
Reenable the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). See the Upgrading the Trusted Platform Module section
If you are not using Easy restore, import your new or existing iDRAC Enterprise license.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
Replace the system cover.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet, and then power on the system.
