iDRAC 9 initial Setup via Lifecycle Controller on your new PowerEdge Server

In this video, you will learn how to set up the iDRAC 9 of your PowerEdge server at the first start using the Lifecycle Controller Wizard or Settings Menu.

The DELL Lifecycle Controller is an advanced embedded systems management technology that enables remote server management. By using the Lifecycle Controller, you can update the firmware using a local or Dell-hosted firmware repository.

The OS deployment wizard available in the Lifecycle Controller enables you to deploy an operating system. The Lifecycle Controller shares an IP address with one of the server’s network cards. The IP address must be configured to use the update and OS installation feature.

To set up your PowerEdge server using the Lifecycle Controller, connect the monitor, keyboard, and both the iDRAC and LAN to the motherboard ports. Turn on or restart the server and press “F10” to start the Lifecycle Controller. If you are starting the Lifecycle Controller for the first time, the initial setup wizard is displayed.

Select your language and keyboard layout, then click “Next” to continue. Read the product overview and click “Next”. Configure the network settings. Wait for the settings to be applied, and click “Next”. Now configure the iDRAC settings. Wait for the settings to be applied, and click “Next”. Verify the network settings and click “Finish”. Next, update the server firmware.

Click “Firmware Update” and then “Launch Firmware Update”. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. Your server is now configured and updated. You can deploy an operating system using the “OS Deployment” menu in the Lifecycle Controller.
