How to Make Recovery Media in Dell Backup and Recovery It is always good to have a way to restore your computer to its factory state incase something happens. Make sure to remove any personal information or important files before you do.
In this video I will show you how to make your own recovery disk or USB with Dell Backup and Recovery. Dell recommends that you use a USB external hard drive or USB thumb drive for your recovery media. You can also use a writeable DVD if your computer has a disk burner.
Make sure your choice of media has at least 8 GB of free space, and connect it to your system. I have already opened up the software on my desktop, and you can see it is alerting me to create my recovery media. If you have already created recovery media in the past, your screen will look like this.
Just click the factory recovery media tile to start the process. The software will scan for writeable media connected to your computer. Once it finds the blank media, the software will offer you options to the right. I only had one: My USB drive. So I will choose that and click "Continue".
It can take a while for the restore media to be created. We advise you did not run other programs while it is writing the files. Once the process is complete, you will see a box confirming if it was successful. Click "OK", and you are all done.
