This video guides you through the process of using Dell SupportAssist's pre-boot system assessment (EPSA) tool to diagnose your computer. You’ll learn how to perform both quick and advanced tests, review test results, and take appropriate actions if any issues are found. Additionally, the video explains how to access system information and logs, which can help Dell tech support assist you.
Dell SupportAssist is an enhanced pre-boot system assessment (EPSA) tool. Before accessing EPSA, ensure that your system remains connected to its power source throughout the entire process.
To begin, restart your computer, and at the Dell logo screen, repeatedly tap the F12 key to access the one-time boot menu. Once the boot menu appears, select diagnostics to prompt the quick test. Note that the mouse will not function during these tests. If you wish to stop the test at any point, press the escape key.
Once testing is complete, the results will be displayed. You can also run an extended version of the EPSA test by clicking on advanced test. There’s an option to enable thorough mode, which performs additional testing with the select all box checked. Alternatively, you can test individual components by selecting them and then clicking on "run test." The results will be displayed once testing is complete.
If no errors are found, you will receive an "all tests passed successfully" message. If errors are found, the results will be displayed along with recommendations for the next steps. Most of these next steps will instruct you to contact a Dell tech support agent.
In addition to the results, the advanced test provides two other options: system info and logs. The system info tab contains details about your current configuration and the health of some key components. The logs tab displays previous test history, which can be helpful to a Dell tech support agent. When you’re finished with the test, simply click exit.
If you have any questions, please contact us via one of the options on the Dell support website so we can assist you.
