In this video we will show you how to replace the optical drive in an OptiPlex Small Form Factor Plus 7020. Before you begin, turn off the computer and disconnect all the attached peripherals. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
To begin, slide the release latch until you hear a click, then slide the side cover towards the back of the computer. And lift the side cover away from the chassis. Gently pry and release the bezel tabs sequentially from the top. Rotate the front bezel outwards and remove it.
Now, place the computer on its side with the opening facing up. If there’s a hard drive in your computer, disconnect the two cables attached to it. To remove the disk-drive cage, start by removing the two cables from their routing guides. Slide the lock handle to unlock the cage and detach it from the chassis. Lift at an angle and slide it outwards. Flip the cage over and place it on the chassis.
Now, disconnect the two cables connected to the optical drive. Push the tab on the drive and gently slide it out of the cage. Pry the optical-drive bracket to release it from its slot and remove it. To install the optical-drive, Insert the alignment pins on the optical-drive bracket in their slots and snap it onto the optical drive. Slide into the disk-drive cage until it snaps into place.
Connect the two cables to their connectors on the optical drive. Now, flip the disk-drive cage. Align the tabs on the cage with its slots on the chassis at a certain angle, and slide it into its slot. And lower it until its place. Slide the lock handle to secure the disk-drive cage. Route the two cables through the routing guides on the cage.
If there’s a hard drive in your computer, route the two cables through the routing guides on the cage. connect the two cables to the respective connectors. Place the computer in upright. Insert the tabs on the right side of the bezel into their corresponding slots on the chassis. Rotate the left-side of the bezel towards the chassis, and press it, snapping the tabs into position.
Finally, align the tabs on the side cover with the slots on the chassis and slide the cover towards the front until the latch clicks into place. For more information or support visit Dell.com/Support.
