Welcome to Dell Technologies Connectix Brocade B-Series SANnav. How to Series. How to configure SANnav event notifications and email setup. Reference Dell Knowledge Article # 195762 This video was created to demonstrate: on how to configure the email server to send event notifications from SANnav to users who are enabled to receive them and to set interval to receive email event notifications for new events and violations received in SANnav.
Before you begin: Ensure that the email server is an IP address or an FQDN. SANnav supports filtering email notifications that are based on event rules and switches. You cannot receive the event notification unless the administrator has enabled email event notification in the "User Preferences" tab. To receive email notifications, you must set the duration to receive the event emails on the SANnav email setup page and configure the email ID in the "SANnav User Management" under "Security". You can configure the email server to send event notifications to users who are enabled to receive them.
To set up an email account, click on "SANnav" in the "Navigation" bar, and then select "Services", "SANnav Email Setup". The "SANnav Email Setup" window is displayed. Enter the email server in the "Email Server" field. Select "None", "SSL", or "TLS" from the "Security" dropdown. When you select security as "SSL" or "TLS", the "SMTP ID" and "SMTP Password" fields are available. Enter the "SMTP Port" number.
The default "SMTP Port" number is 25. Enter the email address in the "Reply Email" field. This reply email is the email address to which reply notifications are sent. To send a test email, select the "Test Email" checkbox. The "Send email to" option is enabled. The "Send email to" option is used to specify the list of users to receive the test email notification. When you have more than one email ID to set up, enter commas between the email IDs with no space to separate the email IDs. Click "Send". A test email would be sent.
To set the frequency for receiving email event notifications, enter the time interval for the notification in the "Email Notification Frequency" field. The range for minutes is 1 to 59, and for hours is 1 to 24 In this case, we are setting up the interval for one minute, which indicates that every minute an event is generated on SANnav, an email notification would be sent. Click the "Enable" checkbox to activate the email configuration. Click "Save" to save the email setup.
To receive email notifications, you must enable "Event Notifications" in the "User Preferences". In order to enable the email notifications, click "User Preferences" by clicking on the "Profile" icon. The "User Preferences" window is displayed. Click the "Edit" button next to the "Email Notifications Preference". The "Email Notifications" window is displayed. Select the "Enable Email Notifications" checkbox. When you select "Enable Email Notifications", you can add or remove rules that are associated with the events or violations and associate switches to these rules. Select "Add" from the "Rules" table. The "Select Rules" window is displayed.
To add event rules, select the rule "Type", rule "Category", Event Column, and the respective value of the Event Column to add event rules. Here we are configuring a rule wherein all the events generated on the SANnav with the event type should be sent as an email notification. You can also include or exclude these rules by using the "Include" or "Exclude" options. Click "OK". The newly created rule is added to the "Rules" table. Next we are configuring a rule wherein all the events generated on the SANnav with the violation type should be set as an email notification.
Here are the list of "Categories". Here are the lists of "Violations". Click "OK". The newly created rule is added to the "Rules" table. Select the rules that need to be applied on the switches. If email notifications are required from a particular switch, select the "Select switches manually" option, and then click "Add" next to the associated switches table. Select the desired switches from the list, and then click "OK". Save the settings. If email notifications are required from all switches, select the "All Switches" option. Click "Save".
The email notification setting is saved. To start sending emails for event notifications, the "User Management" page must be configured with a valid email address. To configure email accounts for each SANnav local user, click on "SANnav". Navigate to "Security", "SANnav User Management". Click "View" from the "Action" menu for a specific user. In this case, the user is "Administrator".
The user login details dialogue displays. Edit the "Email" section and add in the email address. Click "Save". In this example, let us generate a "Supportsave" for one of the switches. The supportsave initiated alert, and the failed alert can be seen under the "Fault" tab along with the "user made configuration changes" events. These alerts will be sent as an email notification to the email that has been configured on the SANnav.
The email address must be configured for each SANnav local user under the "SANnav User Management" tab. For most customers, the Administrator username might be the best option, since it is always there by default. For each local user account, the above must be done either from Administrator or that specific user, once logged in.
Email notifications contain a maximum of 5,000 combined events and violations, of which 2,500 are events, and 2,500 are violations.
