In this video, we demonstrate how to replace the memory on an OptiPlex All-in-One Plus 7420. To begin, turn off your computer and disconnect all peripherals. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Place your computer display down on a clean and flat surface. Press and hold the securing tab, then lift and slide the stand off the computer.
Press down on the securing tab and lift to remove the back cover. Locate the DIMM door on the system board shield. Pinch the securing tabs on the DIMM door and lift it off the system-board shield, exposing the location of the memory slots. Using your fingers, carefully spread apart the securing clips on each end of the memory-module slot until the memory module pops out.
Lift the memory module at an angle and remove it from the slot on the system board. Perform this procedure again if there is a second memory module installed. To avoid static damage, ensure that you have ESD protection equipped and avoid touching the metallic contacts or any components on the memory when handling it.
Now, let’s install the memory module Align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the memory-module slot and slide the memory module in. Then, press down on the memory module until it clicks into place. Perform this procedure again if you need to install a second memory module. Replace the DIMM door and press it into place.
Place and align the back cover on your computer before sliding it into place. Align the tabs on the stand with the slots on the back cover. Then, slide the stand into place. Finally, lift the computer and place it upright.
