This video shows how to replace the M.2 2230 solid-state drive with the M.2 2280 solid-state drive on the Inspiron 14 7415 2-in-1. Before removing the SSD, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.
For more information about safety guidelines, see the Inspiron 14 7415 2-in-1 Service Manual at: Dell.com/support Before you begin, turn off the computer, disconnect all attached peripherals, and remove any micro-SD card installed in the micro-SD card slot on your computer. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
To begin, loosen the three captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Then, remove the four remaining screws that secure the base cover. Pry the base cover from the top-left corner, and then continue to work on the sides to open the base cover.
Lift the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Peel the tape that secures the battery cable to the system board and disconnect the battery cable. Turn the computer over and open the display. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power.
After draining the flea power, close the display, and turn the computer over. Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the SSD bracket. Slide and lift the SSD from the M.2 card slot on the system board.
You have successfully removed the M.2 2230 solid-state drive. Now, let’s install the bracket for the M.2 2280 solid-state drive. To replace the 2230 solid-state drive with a 2280 solid-state drive, remove the solid-state drive bracket from the palm-rest and keyboard assembly and turn the solid-state drive bracket at an angle of 180 degrees.
Then, insert the solid-state drive bracket into the other solid-state drive bracket slot on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly and secure the solid-state drive bracket to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Align the notch on the solid-state drive with the tab on the solid-state drive slot and slide the M.2 2280 solid-state drive in to the slot on the system board at an angle.
Replace the screw that secures the SSD to the SSD bracket. Re-connect the battery-cable connector to the system board and adhere the tape to the battery. Re-install the base cover by aligning and placing the base cover on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Press the edges and sides of the base cover until it snaps into place. Tighten the three captive screws. And replace the four screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. You can now reconnect all peripherals.
To install the micro-SD card, insert the microSD card into its slot until it clicks into place. You have replaced the M.2 2230 with M.2 2280 solid-state drive on the Inspiron 14 7415 2-in-1.
