Hey, this is Tyler, technical evangelist for portrait displays. In this video, I’m going to demonstrate how to use CalMAN for Dell to calibrate the new Dell monitor. The first thing I’m going to do after I’ve opened CalMAN and entered the license, is go up to the “CalMAN” menu and “Open Workflow Template” and select “Dell Display Calibration”. Now, my particular setup is I have the Dell monitor set up as a secondary screen on my laptop, connected via HDMI.
Then, I have a USB-C to USB-A cable plugged into my laptop to control the monitor. The first thing I’m going to do is select “Connect Dell Monitor” here. And I have two options here, “3D LUT” or “Matrix”. If I select “3D LUT”, the process of calibration will use a 1D lookup table and a 3D lookup table. And if I select “Matrix”, it will use a 1D lookup table and a 3x3 matrix.
For this demonstration, I’m going to select “Matrix” and then hit “Connect”. OK, we’re connected to the monitor. Now, we need to connect as a pattern generator, which is also built into the monitor, by hitting “Connect” again. The third is we need to check this checkbox here, “Dell Displays with meter”, and then hit “Search” again. The motorized measurement device should come out of the bottom of the display and swipe up onto the screen.
We can go to the next step now. This is where we can select our calibration target. For this demonstration, I’m going to enter 200 nits or candelas per meter squared (cd/m^2). I’m also going to uncheck the “Uniformity”. And we have two options. I can check this checkbox, called “Autosave Calibration”. That will run through the calibration in a completely automated process. I’m going to uncheck it just so I can show you each step individually. I’m going to go to “Next”. Now, this is our pre-calibration capture.
This will show us our before and after. I’m going to hit the “Read Series” button down here — it looks like an H. And it’s going to take our pre-calibration measurements. Now, our pre-calibration measurements are complete. I’m going to click the “Next” button to go on to our next step. This is where we’re going to do our AutoCal. We’re going to go down here and hit our “AutoCal” button, and it's going to do our calibration. Now, our calibration is done, we go on to our validation step by clicking “Next”. Now, we’re going to hit “Read Series” again. Our post-calibration measurements are done, so we’re going to go to our “Save Data” and “test1”.
This saves all the calibration data. So, you can use the Companion app to reload this calibration into the monitor. Now, we have our report that shows the before and after. The first page is the before measurement, and the second page is the after measurement. And we can export that to a PDF, or we can print the report on a piece of paper.
Thanks for watching this tutorial video.
