Welcome to Dell supports.
This video will give you an overview of what a customer replaceable unit or CRU is. Basically a CRU is apart that is simple to replace. However, if you need help, don't worry.
We are here. In this video we'll cover the common tools needed. What to expect when receiving your CRU and navigating the support site. Most CRU's can be replaced with common household tools.
For example, covers are attached with screws and can be removed with a Philips head screwdriver. If available, a magnetic screwdriver will be more useful to ensure that you don't lose the screws.
Another handy tool would be a plastic scribe. This helps you more easily pry open some of the components of your system without damaging them.
When your package arrives, these are some of the common items you might find inside the box. The replacement part, the return label and packing slip, if the part requires it.
You may also receive additional items such as a thermal grease applicator and chempad. Now that your CRU has arrived, you'll need to follow the steps in the service manual on how to replace your part.
Let's walk you through how to locate your part replacement instructions. First, open your browser and go to Dell.com/Support. Next, navigate to your product support page by locating the product for which you are replacing a part.
On the right is a list of recently access product pages. If your system does not appear there, on the left, click in the search field. Enter the service tag in the search box and hit search.
Once on the product support page, select the documentation tab directly below the product banner. This tab contains KnowledgeBase Articles, documentation and videos specific to your system.
Now locate the Product Service Manual and select view page. Under the table of Contents, depending on your system, locate and click either disassembly and reassembly or removing and installing components.
You should now be able to locate the specific section of the manual pertaining to the part you will be replacing. If you still need help, our virtual assistant is ready to assist you.
Once you have your part replaced, take a moment and look at the packing slip that came in the box. This should help, you know, if you need to return the original part.
If the part needs to be returned, you should also have a return label. Place the original part into the same packaging that the new one came in.
Make sure to seal the box securely, then place the return label on the box over the old one. Finally, send the box back to Dell. For more information or support, visit Dell.com/Support.
