Keep the vents cleaned and always use your laptop on a hard, flat surface. To properly clean the vents, turn off the computer, and disconnect all the external devices. Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery, if possible. Using a can of compressed air, blow out any dust.
Be sure to hold the can at a 90-degree angle, at about six to eight inches away from the vents. Afterwards, reinsert the battery and plug the AC adapter back in. Hard, flat surfaces are best to allow for proper airflow. Reconnect the external devices, restart the computer, and see if this helped.
Updating system drivers can also help reduce overheating. Do this with Dell SupportAssist. Windows-search for SupportAssist, and open it. Navigate to “Get Drivers and Downloads” and click on “Run Now”. SupportAssist will automatically show all the available updates for your PC.
Click on “Install”, and follow the onscreen instructions. Try changing the system’s power setting to “Balanced”. Right-click the battery icon on the taskbar. Select “Power Options”. Now just choose the “Balanced (recommended)” power plan, and close the window.
