This video explains how to reset a forgotten Windows 10 password. Microsoft offers two methods for resetting the password: using a Microsoft online account reset or using a computer administrator account. If the Windows account is connected to a Microsoft account, the password can be reset online by following a few steps. If not, a local administrator account can be used to reset the password. If none of these options work, the only solution is to reinstall Windows.
Having issues logging in to Windows? Don’t remember your Windows 10 password? Keep watching to learn how to reset it. Passwords are great at keeping people out of your information, but if anyone can change your password, it is not very secure.
Microsoft offers two methods for resetting your password: A Microsoft online account reset, or a using a computer administrator account.
If you have connected your Windows account to your Microsoft account you can easily reset it online. Logon to Microsoft’s “Reset your Password” page from an alternate computer Click on “I forgot my password” and then click on the “Next” button.
Type your Microsoft account name and the characters displayed on your screen in the relevant fields. Click "Next". Select the way you would like to receive your security code for resetting your password.
For security, you must complete the hidden part of either the email address or the phone number where you would like to receive the security code. Click “Send Code”.
Once received, enter the security code in the text box, and Click "Next". Your password is now reset. You should now be able to log on to Windows with your new password.
If you did not create a Microsoft account, you will need a local administrator to reset your account. For users not on a network, the first account created on the computer is the administrator by default.
If one or more accounts can still log in, check to see if they have administrator privileges. Search for “user accounts” in the Cortana Search box. Open the User Accounts window.
Click the "Manage another account" link. Select the user account you wish to edit. Click on “Change the Password”, and set a new password for the account.
You should now be able to login to your account with the new password. If you are unable to login in to a valid administrator account on the system, unfortunately there are no other options available at this time.
You will need to reinstall Windows. For more information on using Windows 10, visit dell.com/support/windows10, or contact us at facebook.com/dell, or @dellcares on Twitter.
