This video shows how to replace the processor or CPU fan in an Inspiron 16 Plus 7640. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals. Then enter Service Mode by pressing and holding the B key and then press the power button.
The computer will boot up and the Owner Tag information is displayed. Press any key to proceed, the computer will emit three short beeps and shut down. To begin, loosen the two captive screws. Then remove the seven screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the top left at the hinge and then continue to work on the sides to open the base cover.
Lift the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Locate the CPU fan. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board. Remove the two screws that secure the fan and lift it off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. To install the CPU fan, align the screw holes on the fan with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Replace the two screws to secure the fan in place. Connect the fan cable to the system board. Place and snap the base cover on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Tighten the two captive screws and then replace the seven screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. With the computer assembled, connect the power adapter.
