Prerequisites
CAUTION: Never operate your system with the internal cooling fan removed. The system can overheat and result in shutdown of the system and loss of data.
CAUTION: Do not operate the system with the cover removed for a duration exceeding 5 minutes.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
If installed, remove the front bezel.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.
Lay the system on its side.
Remove the system cover.
Remove the air shroud.
Removing the internal cooling fan:
Disconnect the internal cooling fan power cable from the system board.
Press the release tab, and holding the internal cooling fan, slide it out in the direction of the arrow marked on the fan.
Holding the internal cooling fan, press the release tab, and slide the cooling fan out in the direction of the arrow marked on the fan.
CAUTION: Do not remove or install the internal cooling fan by holding the fan blades.
Removing the external cooling fan:
Disconnect the external cooling fan power cable from the system board.
Remove the four screws that secure the external cooling fan to the chassis.
Lift the external cooling fan to disengage the upper and the lower hooks from the slots on the chassis wall and remove the cooling fan.
Remove the external cooling fan power cable from the slot on the system.

Installing the external cooling fan:
Route the external cooling fan power cable into the system through the slot at the back of the chassis.
Align and insert the lower and upper hooks on the external cooling fan into the corresponding slots at the back of the chassis.
Use the four screws to secure the external cooling fan to the chassis.
Connect the external cooling fan power cable to the FAN2 connector on the system board.

Installing the internal cooling fan:
Hold the cooling fan by the sides with the cable end facing the bottom of the chassis.
CAUTION: Do not remove or install the internal cooling fan by holding the fan blades.
Align the four tabs on the internal cooling fan with the four slots on the chassis wall.
Press and slide the internal cooling fan into the slots until the release tab locks into place.
Connect the internal cooling fan power cable to theFAN1 connector on the system board.
Install the cooling shroud.
