Prerequisites
CAUTION:To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, remove the drives from the system before removing the backplane.
CAUTION:Note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before you remove the drive so that you can reinstall them in the same location.
NOTE:The procedure to remove the backplane is similar for all backplane configurations.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.
Remove the system cover.
Removing the cooling fan cage:
Lift the blue release levers to unlock the cooling fan cage assembly from the system.
Hold the release levers, and lift the cooling fan cage assembly away from the system.
Removing a drive carrier:
Press the release button to open the drive carrier release handle.
Holding the drive carrier release handle, slide the drive carrier out of the drive slot.
NOTE:If you are not replacing the drive immediately, install a drive blank in the empty drive slot to maintain proper system cooling.
Removing the front PERC module:
Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, loosen the captive screws on the front PERC module.
Slide the front PERC module to disengage from the connector on the drive backplane.
Disconnect the drive backplane cables from the connector on the backplane.
Removing the 3.5-inch drive:
Press the blue release tabs to disengage the drive backplane from the hooks on the system.
Lift and pull the drive backplane out of the system.
Installing the 3.5-inch drive:
