In this video, we'll demonstrate how to configure the Barcode Scanner using "Rugged Control Center 4.2.1". We'll also demonstrate how to use both the Dell Scanner Module with USB and Camera-Based Scanner using a camera-based scanner as the example. To begin, launch "Rugged Control Center".
Go to the "Settings" section and click "Barcode Settings". In the scanner option, select the scanner source from the drop-down menu such as "Dell Scanner Module with USB", Rear Camera, or "Front Camera". The "Dell Scanner Module with USB" is an external attached scanner, which is much more powerful with enhanced features compared to the free camera-based scanner.
To use the Dell Scanner Module with USB, ensure that you first install the "Dell Rugged Scanner Module with US"" driver from the Dell.com/Support page for Rugged Tablets. After installing the driver, please change the settings of your driver by following these steps: Go to the "Device Manager". Then click the "Ports", and right-click the "Honeywell Driver".
Finally, go to "Properties". On the "Power Management" tab, uncheck the first box. For the purpose of demonstrating how to use this scanner, we will select the "Rear Camera" as a scanner source in this video. Now, select the scanner "Mode" as "Multi Scan Mode" or "Single Scan Mode". The "Multi Scan Mode" allows you to scan barcodes one after the other without turning off the scanner.
The "Single Scan Mode" allows you to scan only a single barcode, and thus, turns off the scanner after a single scan. For this video, we'll select "Multi Scan Mode". After selecting the mode, configure the "Prefix" and "Suffix" settings based on your requirements. In the "Prefix" and "Suffix Settings", the default option is "None". However, you can change the option to "Alphanumeric Character" or Keyboard Recording and enter the required inputs in the fields.
For this video, in the "Prefix Settings", we will select the option "Alphanumeric Character" and enter the value as "abc" so that every scanned barcode starts with "abc" in the input source. And in the "Suffix Settings", we will select the option as Keyboard Recording and add the value as "Enter", so that every scanned barcode gets added to the next line in the input source. The Camera-Based Barcode Scanner is now configured and displayed in the "Feature List" section.
Follow the same process to configure the Dell Scanner Module for USB. Now that we've configured the scanner, let's see how to use it. To use the scanner, launch it either from the "Feature List" section, Programmable Buttons, or "Edge" menus. After launching, open any input source such as "Notepad", Excel, "Word" and so on, to capture the barcode. Ensure that the cursor is positioned in the selected input source.
Place the barcode in front of the rear camera of your system, which scans the barcode, and captures it on the selected input source. For more information about Rugged Control Center, visit Dell.com/Support.
