Vista Now Avalaible on XPS 710; 710 H2C with Vista Coming Soon

In the days since Vista hit the market, I started receiving e-mails from Dell customers about when we would offer Vista on the XPS 710 and the 710 H2C. Earlier this week, we began taking orders for the XPS 710 with Vista on www.dell.com. The 710 H2C won’t be too far behind.

Two main issues caused the delay:

  • Graphics card drivers for high-end cards
  • Timing issues on waking from an S3 sleep state: we’ve implemented a BIOS revision and updated several device drivers to meet shorter timing requirements.

Regarding the graphics card drivers, we offer Vista drivers for the following cards: NVIDIA’s GeForce 7900 GS, 7900GTX, 7950 GX2 and 8800 GTX graphics cards; also ATI’s X1950XTX.

Dual graphics card configurations are not fully implemented in either case. The 100.69 version of the NVIDIA 8800 GTX driver does not fully support SLI mode. The same applies to the 8.332 version of the driver for the ATI X1950XTX card. We hope to have updated drivers to fully support dual graphics card configurations in the coming weeks.
