Inspiron Special Edition Laptops Bring Ivy Bridge Plus Other High-End Features

Today we have unveiled the revamped Inspiron laptop portfolio with three reinvigorated family members: the popular Inspiron R-series, the slim and sleek z-series and the new, surprising (and powerful) Inspiron R Special Edition series. And it’s my pleasure to share some additional details on the new “muscle cars” of the Inspiron family, the Special Edition laptops!

Designed for entertainment and technology enthusiasts, the Inspiron R Special Edition laptops blend high-performance technology with robust multimedia features and premium design touches. For those of you who like to start by looking under the hood, the Inspiron 15R and 17R Special Editions are powered by 3rd Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processors (aka Ivy Bridge) and 2GB performance-class graphics from AMD Radeon HD 7730M DDR3 (15R) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M GDDR5 (17R). There is even a “turbo-charger” on select configurations in the form of a 32GB mSATA SSD device with Intel Rapid Start and Smart Response technologies, for an Ultrabook-like “Wakes Fast, Thinks Fast” experience, resuming in seconds and accessing the programs you use most in a flash.

More than a few customers have asked for a Full HD 1080p display option on Inspiron, and I’m happy to say both the Inspiron 15R & 17R Special Edition deliver. With the Inspiron 17R Special Edition, you can choose between a super bright 400nit Full HD display and the immersive Full HD 3D display which is amazing for viewing 3D photos and movies, and games (3D glasses sold separately).  If you need to share vacation photos or watch a movie with a group of people, take advantage of the  Intel Wireless Display that will stream 1080p and 5.1 surround sound wirelessly from your laptop to an HDTV (more info at www.dell.com/widi).

If you want to see more images of the new laptops, visit the Inspiron R Special Edition album on Dell’s Google+ page.

What does a higher resolution display mean? Finer details and more content! Blu-Ray disc movies can be viewed in glorious detail, you can see more rows and columns on your spreadsheets, or you can view two web or document pages side by side. While you are feasting your eyes on these high-caliber displays, your ears will be enjoying the enhanced audio delivered by studio quality Waves MaxxAudio 4  suite + Skullcandy speakers (including a subwoofer on the Inspiron 17R Special Edition.)

All of this horsepower is contained in a sleek anodized aluminum finish in Stealth Black, with a precision etched honeycomb design that gives it a subtle texture. Anodized aluminum offers an amazing strength to weight ratio, so your Inspiron R Special Edition will look good day after day, whether it’s moving across the room or across campus. Other key details include a backlit keyboard (optional in some countries, standard in others), four (4) USB 3.0 ports, (one with PowerShare), and a 1.4a HDMI port, and three quick launch buttons for one-touch access to Windows Mobility Center, Waves MaxxAudio and the application of your choice.

Here’s a video overview of the kinds of features and performance you can expect from the Dell’s new Inspiron R Special Edition laptops:

So that’s the initial overview of the Inspiron 15R & 17R Special Editions… they are a very different animal from the typical Inspiron. I for one am really proud of the product planners, designers and engineers who brought the Special Edition series to life. Their dedication in blending top-of-the-line performance options with high end entertainment features have resulted in “special edition” laptops actually worthy of that desgnation and frankly, kick a**!
