In April we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Dell PowerEdge server. In the mid-1990s, the server market was new for Dell and the business accounted for a mere 5% of revenue for Dell. Over the past two decades, we’ve grown the business to become one of the top server providers in the world at the heart of a global, end-to-end IT provider that continues to develop new and innovative platforms to address a growing, complex marketplace. To mark the occasion, we held a town hall meeting for the Dell PowerEdge team where we looked back at the early days of PowerEdge and ahead to the future of the data center.
Coincidentally, just recently, Dell was positioned as Leader in the new Gartner Quadrant for Modular Servers, replacing the Blade Server Magic Quadrant. Clear proof of what the PowerEdge business has achieved over the past 20 years.
We might not be in possession of a crystal ball, but we do have a pretty good idea where technology is headed. As we head into the next two decades, we promise to continue incorporating your feedback, and to tear down the silos between New and Legacy IT by delivering future-ready solutions.
We have a number of exciting announcements coming up to address this shift in technology and tap into new dynamics of the server market. Stay tuned to find out how PowerEdge will evolve to address our customers’ needs, and be sure to connect with us on Twitter. Here’s to the next 20 years!
