Dell has been buzzing around from one event to another all month long, dropping news along the way. Below is a quick recap of the places we’ve gone and the news we’ve announced this May:
Our Networking team kicked off May at the NFV World Congress in Silicon Valley on May 5-8. There, Arpit Joshipura, VP Product Management and Strategy, discussed how to make NFV a reality during his keynote and showcased recent NFV solutions including vIMS and vEPC.
We also attended SAP’s SAPPHIRE NOW Conference where it unveiled three new solutions for SAP HANA. At the event, we showcased Dell’s PowerEdge R930 server which has been certified to run SAP HANA, Dell Transformation Services for SAP solutions, and a beta version of Toad for SAP solutions. These new solutions are the most recent evidence of Dell’s long history of collaboration with SAP.
At Microsoft Ignite in Chicago on May 4-8, we announced the Dell PowerEdge R630 Configuration for Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track v4. This software-based solution includes Dell PowerEdge R630 servers, MD1400 12G SAS storage running Microsoft Storage Spaces, and Dell 10Gb networking switches (with 40Gb uplinks) for private and hybrid cloud architectures. This new product runs the full suite of System Center with Windows Azure Pack (WAP) integration, providing customers full cloud capability in a flexible, building block framework.
The Dell SCv2000
We had an assortment of new storage solutions and updates this month including Dell Storage with Microsoft Storage Spaces, our most recent software defined storage (SDS) offering that is validated and tested with Microsoft Storage Spaces technology. Also announced was the entry-level storage array, SCv2000 Series that includes Dell Storage Center software for integrated data protection to support specialized projects, database and test environments, and simple storage consolidation. Dell Storage PS6610 Series is another enterprise array, introduced this month, that offers high-performance and high-capacity for Dell’s mid-market, iSCSI-based arrays.
The OpenStack Summit was held May 18-22 in beautiful Vancouver. There, we talked about how we accelerate our customer’s journey to cloud computing with OpenStack cloud solutions. We announced our newest Dell Red Hat Cloud Solutions that integrate Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6 with support from our PowerEdge 13th Generation Servers. We also showcased the latest and greatest capabilities in Dell Cloud Manager that helps manage clouds, user access and cloud hosting providers in one tool.
Dell Storage SC4020 placed first on the Storage Performance Council (SPC). The SPC-1 benchmark is an audited, standardized benchmark that measures block I/O performance, reports results and includes associated costs for all participating vendors. SC4020 was chosen because of its IOPS performance and low price point. It also executed 100% of the benchmark workload with an average response time that was twice as fast as optimal metrics for other business-critical applications.
Also announced was the general availability of Dell Engineered Solutions for VMware EVO:RAIL Horizon Edition, as well as new updates to Dell Engineered Solutions for VMware EVO:RAIL. With these new solutions, we continue to build on our partnership with VMware and our joint commitment to providing customers with simple yet powerful cloud and virtual infrastructure solutions to help future-proof their IT environments and organizations.

We wrapped up the final days of May on a high note, with Dell Enterprise Innovation Days. A small group of press and bloggers from the US and Canada visited our design and engineering labs here in Central Texas to learn more about how Dell is shaping the future of the enterprise.
