PHILADELPHIA, AIIM Conference, EMC Booth #825 – March 31, 2009 – EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced two new enterprise content management (ECM) solutions — helping customers to more quickly deploy content-enabled applications that drive better business efficiency and realize more rapid return on their investments (ROI). Covering case management and document management, the new solutions include:
- A new EMC Documentum® Case Management Solution Framework, which substantially accelerates the development of case management applications
- EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender® 6 with new modules for workflow and retention management
In addition, EMC will conduct the first true demonstration of an implementation of Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) in its booth #825. Announced in September 2008, CMIS is a jointly developed specification which uses Web Services and Web 2.0 interfaces to enable applications to interoperate with multiple ECM repositories from different vendors. EMC worked with the AIIM iECM Committee, Alfresco and Nuxeo to develop a demonstration that shows the use of CMIS to access several content management repositories in a common and unified manner.
“In today’s challenging economy, companies are being required to do more with less and need solutions that can help them drive new efficiencies in their business while realizing an immediate return on their investments,” said Whitney Tidmarsh, Chief Marketing Officer, Content Management and Archiving Division at EMC. “The new products we announced today, as well as our active participation in advancing CMIS, are clear demonstrations of how EMC is enabling our customers to quickly deploy content-enabled applications that meet and exceed these requirements.”
EMC Documentum Case Management Solution Framework
Case management is a pattern of work commonly used in almost all industries—such as financial services, public sector and healthcare—that requires a group of people to systematically process and collaborate on a case folder that consists of both content and data. Traditionally, building case management applications have been cumbersome and time-consuming as well as difficult to maintain particularly when changes are needed to adjust the application to a new set of business requirements.
The Case Management Solution Framework enables system integrators and application partners as well as internal IT developers to build case management solutions up to 50 percent faster and at a significantly reduced cost. The Case Management Solution Framework includes:
- Pre-integrated technologies utilizing the core capabilities of the EMC Documentum platform—business process management, content management, document capture, collaboration, customer communications management and compliance
- A tutorial that illustrates the creation of a case management solution
- A case management sample application and other best practices covering application development and deployment
- An Express Install tool which provides single-click installation of all the components needed for case management on a single server
This combination of capabilities allow partners and customers to “configure more and code less” as well as reduce project risks by utilizing a solid, consistent and repeatable solutions platform.
“The EMC Documentum Case Management Solution Framework is a step up from many traditional frameworks which are more typically a set of products priced and sold as a bundle,” said Paul Barber, director of the enterprise content management practice at Unisys Corporation. “The EMC Documentum Case Management Solution Framework delivers a high level of software integration and includes best practice templates and blueprints. Combined with Unisys 3D Blueprinting tools and methodology and our strength in application modernization and outsourcing, we can now build repeatable and proven case management applications for our clients much faster. Clients also benefit because the application takes less time to implement and is easier to support over the long term.”
EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender 6
ApplicationXtender is a market-leading departmental document management solution that delivers rapid ROI for organizations with limited IT budgets and supporting resources. The solution provides out-of-the box capabilities that allow departments to manage content such as images, documents and reports. Built on a central repository, ApplicationXtender provides capabilities for high-speed image capture and storage and is designed for quick deployment.
New features in ApplicationXtender 6 include:
- A Workflow Manager module for creating departmental workflow solutions designed to improve efficiency in business processes. Built on Microsoft .NET, it provides out-of-the-box workflow samples, a user-friendly process designer and built-in reporting tools—everything business users need to design, implement and manage their processes without IT support.
- A Retention Manager module for applying automatic retention capabilities such as holds, reporting, disposals and audits trails to documents to ensure regulatory compliance.
As one of the largest public employers in the state of Arkansas, with over 9,600 employees, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) uses ApplicationXtender as a cost-effective system to scan all types of paper documents and store them in an easily searchable repository.
“In 1997, when only three departments were using EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender, we estimated that the solution was saving us approximately $30,000 per year. Since then, we have been able to quickly deploy the solution to over 300 UAMS departments—managing everything from accounts payable and receivables to patient files, clinical trial reports, admissions applications, equipment repair manuals and construction management blueprints,” said Bonnie Hipp, Senior Support Analyst at UAMS. “With its widespread use throughout the campus, the savings have grown significantly to at least $750,000 per year, allowing UAMS to allocate those funds for other projects and supplies. We expect the new features in ApplicationXtender 6 will allow each department to be able to build, test and manage their own business workflows as well as manage their own document retention without IT support—driving even better efficiencies and cost savings throughout UAMS.”
The Case Management Solution Framework and ApplicationXtender 6 are available now.
