Webinar explores medical storage management

Because of their need for efficient, secure archiving, health care IT professionals will be interested in the free webinar “Radiology Can Benefit From an Enterprise Storage Management System” on Sept. 27.

The one-hour session, sponsored by Dell, will begin with a discussion on how and why long-term storage should be independent of clinical applications like picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).

The experts leading the webinar will be:

  • Edward M. Smith, a professor at the Department of Imaging Sciences of the University of Rochester Medical Center who has published and taught extensively about PACS.
  • Marianne Matthews, editor of Imaging Economics, a site dedicated to helping radiologists, radiology administrators and health care executives meet the challenges of providing quality imaging in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Panelists will discuss how to define a vendor-neutral archive (VNA) and an enterprise storage management system (ESMS) as well as how radiology groups can benefit from an ESMS. Participants can also learn how to leverage an ESMS to build revenue and facilitate compliance with “meaningful use.”

Though the webinar is aimed at radiology practices, the information panelists will share is applicable to all clinical specialties – from cardiology and dentistry to oncology and ophthalmology. The discussion will be useful to any health care organization that generates fixed content objects such as ECGs, structured reports, scanned documents and jPEGs.
