New EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines: Redefining Hybrid Cloud Data Protection

As organizations continue their journey towards leveraging hybrid cloud services and modernizing their data centers to a software-defined architecture, updating or upgrading data protection strategies and methods must also follow suit.

EMC is proud to introduce the newest member of the EMC RecoverPoint family, RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines, a simple, more efficient operational and disaster recovery solution for the applications of today and tomorrow in VMware-based cloud environments.  This solution provides local and remote replication in combination with continuous data protection for per-VM recovery to any point in time, with built-in automated disaster recovery orchestration.  RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines brings the enterprise quality and advanced features of EMC RecoverPoint, with over 20,000 units installed worldwide, to a 100% software offering.

Stephen Manley and Beth Phalen discuss the evolution of data protection in a software-defined world.

Software-Defined VM Protection RecoverPoint for VMs is a fully virtualized, hypervisor-based replication and automated disaster recovery solution that is highly integrated into VMware’s cloud management software.  The solution installs with ease on existing ESXi servers, allowing replication and recovery at the VM granularity level.  RecoverPoint for VMs is completely storage-agnostic, enabling replication of VMs to and from any storage certified by VMware.  In the fourth quarter of 2014, customers will be able to work with their preferred resellers to deploy RecoverPoint for VMs quickly and efficiently as part of an EMC VSPEX Proven Infrastructure.

slide 1 jpg vAdministrator Visibility and Control RecoverPoint for VMs enables vAdministrators to take a more active role in protecting and recovering their VMs.  Given their understanding of the business value of the application data and the fact that RecoverPoint for VMs uses a simple replication configuration wizard in the vSphere Web Client, vAdministrators can establish and manage VM-level replication quickly and easily.

Jason Buffington discusses the trends around agile data protection, how virtualization administrators are taking control and modernization of protection and recovery for hybrid cloud environments.

Enhanced Disaster Recovery Readiness RecoverPoint for VMs helps reduce the time, complexity and resources required for both operational and disaster recovery processes.  With RecoverPoint for VMs, the vAdmin is able to conduct automated disaster recovery orchestration tasks (for single VMs or up to an entire site) from within the RecoverPoint for VMs vCenter plug-in.  Automated DR workflows include:

  • Recovery from logical corruption to any point
  • Failover and failback of specific consistency groups to any point
  • Non-disruptive DR testing
